Bill Evans (Piano)

Description:

Bill Evans' second trio @ London "Live at Top of the Gate" recorded the early days of the "Ronnie Scotts" trio in December 1969, and the trio's performance has deepened dramatically. Resonance, the historical label of the 21st century, will release a previously unreleased work by Bill Evans. Previously available only as live recordings from the Montreux Jazz Festival, the trio of Eddie Gomez and Jack DiJohnette have now made two of their most precious recordings, "Some Other Time" and "Another Time," and released them on Resonance, This album is the first time the label has released a previously unreleased Evans recording, "Live at Top of the Gate" (recorded on October 23, 1968, released in 2012), and comes almost a year later. The trio is called the Second Trio, consisting of Eddie Gomez and Marty Morrell, and is the longest active trio in Evans' career. While the songs are mainly Evans' signature numbers, the recordings of early recordings of songs such as "Sugar Plum" and "The Two Lonely People" are also valuable. The inclusion of "My Foolish Heart" and "Waltz for Debby" in the same track order as "Waltz for Debby," which is a film adaptation of Vanguard's classic performance. The editing is also interesting. The source material came from an avid French collector named "Joe" who contacted Leon Terjanian, who filmed the documentary "Turn out the Stars," in 2016. With Evans' approval, the tapes recorded by Joe were transferred from Terjanian to Resonance, which licensed them to the relevant parties and made them available. The sound quality is excellent. The jacket is cool, of course, and, as is typical of Resonance, the booklet includes rare photos of Chuck Stewart and Jean-Pierre Leroy, interviews with Eddie Gomez and Marty Morrell, and many other rare episodes. This is another release that shows respect for the artists.
