A new masterpiece! The warmth of the portamento is irresistible. The Naratio String Quartet, a group of virtuoso players, records Beethoven's early string quartets! The Amsterdam-based Narratio String Quartet has recorded Beethoven's early string quartets (Nos. 1-6) in the order in which Beethoven composed them! The name "Narratio" means "the art of rhetoric," and the quartet was named after the musicians' desire not only to communicate with the audience but also to interact with the audience. The quartet, which plays gut strings and uses 19th century and modern bows, first attracted attention when it performed Beethoven's last five string quartets for five consecutive nights at the Utrecht Festival of Ancient Music in 2009, and has performed Beethoven's complete works regularly ever since. This recording contains one of their responses to Beethoven's music, which they have been performing for the past 15 years. The ensemble's performance is appealing to the audience while aiming for ensemble harmony, and they also use portamento techniques to make the music flow naturally, as if the melody is sung.This is a new masterpiece that will raise expectations for future Beethoven recordings! First violinist Johannes (Johannes) Lehltorver also surprised listeners with his bold portamento and innovative tempo setting in his recording of Brahms' Violin Sonatas (CC-72964), but his performance is remarkable for its truly natural music.
