The Grateful Dead, the longest-running and most bizarre adventure in American music history.For more than half a century, they have been the world's most beloved musical ambassadors of the psychedelic era, sending messages of freedom, love, and peace, and their one-of-a-kind presence is often described not as "just one band" but as a "cultural movement. In recent years, the Grateful Dead have released an archive series tracing their history through music and an anniversary edition celebrating the 50th anniversary of their release.In 1980, to celebrate their 15th anniversary, the Grateful Dead played an astounding 15 consecutive nights at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco and 8 consecutive nights at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. These shows always opened with a 45-minute acoustic set, the band's first acoustic set since 1970. These shows featured Dead classics, solos by each member, old traditional numbers from the band's early years, and relatively new material.The show was recorded on 32-track tape (made possible by synchronizing two 16-track tape machines), and the resulting live album is the clearest-sounding Dead album to date. RECKONING" features many classic Grateful Dead live songs, including "Cassidy," "Bird Song," "Monkey And The Engineer," and "Ripple," which will be reissued on a two-disc black analog set.As with previous Dead archival series and anniversary editions, the soundtrack is the latest remastered soundtrack by Grammy Award-winning engineer David Glasser. The Grateful Dead's legacy manager and audio archivist, David Lemieux, is also producing this edition.
