This is the first new album from Poland's leading avant-garde trumpeter, Tomasz Stanko New York Quartet, in four years since "Wislawa". Always the insightful bandleader, but always the insightful bandleader, Stanko continues on this album with improvisations around his signature melancholic and soulful themes, encouraging all musicians to perform at their best. New member Reuben Rogers, best known for his work with Charles Lloyd, hails from the Virgin Islands, but the other members, David Virelles from Cuba and Gerald Cleaver from Detroit, play perfectly together. Stanko has never played with a pianist like Virelles. He's never had a rhythm section like Rogers and Cleaver. They are hard-edged and full of volatile energy." He also praised the individual members of the band.
