Description:
This is the first ECM album by Mobile, an acoustic quartet that Nick Bertu has been playing with since 1997. Nick Bertu is best known for Ronin, who made his ECM debut with "Stoa" in 2005, but it was with this acoustic quartet called MOBILE that he formed in the first place. The work is an organic blend of jazz, funk, new music, minimal music, religious and ritual music, and of course Nick Bertsch's influence from Japanese culture, and you can feel the energy of the group as a whole rather than each individual's solo work. Mobile's music is composed of what Bertu calls "modules," which create a spiral. It is based on the competition of several elements and reminds the listener of the pulse pattern in minimal music.Compared to the work of classical minimalists such as Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass, the music is less floating and more going through the rhythm and beat.
