Description:
This is a rare collection of choral works by Shevarine (1902-1963), a composer born in Omsk, Siberia. Raised by parents who were both music teachers, he went to Moscow at the age of 20 to study at the Moscow Conservatory, where he was discovered by Glière and Myaskovsky. He became friends with Shostakovich and was a member of the Union of Modern Music (AMM) in the 1920s. Early on, he was influenced by Impressionism, but later he turned to Socialist Realism, altering the conclusion of Tchaikovsky's "1812," for example. At the request of the authorities, he changed the original form written by the composer and inserted the national anthem of the former Soviet Union. The form can still be heard today, and it is an ideal work to consider the "national situation" of the time. This album is a collection of choral works that is full of his original "modest and optimistic" style. It has a simple taste in the style of folk songs. Naxos Japan
