Jurovsky is deeply committed to Shostakovich's music, and this is his first appearance on the LPO label since Symphonies Nos. 6 and 14 (LPO 0080), released in 2014. This symphony is cinematic music about the eve of the Russian Revolution, and Shostakovich's astonishing descriptive powers are on display. The entire piece, including the massacre scene in "Bloody Sunday," is a difficult piece that tests the conductor's abilities.
