This is intense! A band formed in Rio in '12 by a French percussionist and a Brazilian saxophonist, Arabe Ketujazz, is now on record! Candomble is a syncretism of indigenous religion and Catholicism brought by African slaves brought to Brazil. Based on a variety of traditional rhythms dedicated to various deities called orishas, it combines jazz idioms. Not only the rhythms played by the three atabakis of different sizes, Hun/Pi/Le, but also the saxophone follows the traditional melody that invokes the orishas.
