Transylvania, which is a treasure trove of high-quality folk songs, was transferred from Hungary to Romania after World War II, but for various reasons, the people of Transylvania did not oppress the Hungarian people, so their identity remained Hungarian. Hungarian identity remained the same. The composer of this CD, Chabaud, was initially active as a conductor of a folk orchestra, and taught Hungarian rhythm and intonation in addition to music after he took a teaching position. Chabot also noted the obvious notational limitations of scoring folk songs according to the "mean scale" of the Western musical scale, which requires the writing of arrows next to each note to indicate whether the note is actually higher or lower than the note it represents. He also believed that the ambiguous sounds of the prepared piano were more convenient for the complex and ambiguous sounds of folk songs.The last two pieces on this album, "Wandering Tunes" and "Away from Home," are both beautifully crafted pieces of prepared piano music that approach the folk songs of their homelands with a prepared piano sound that ranges from the eerie roar of the bass to the clarity of a harpsichord or celesta. Moreover, in "Far Away," he does an elaborate job of transforming quotations from Bartók's scoring. Enjoying the homage-type works, track 10, "Bagatelle, Last Scene of the Carnival," is like an homage to "Petrushka," and track 19, "Dance with Destiny," is a powerful work that is like an homage to Saint-Saens "Samson and Delilah" Bacchanale.
