Description:

A must-hear recording featuring "A Soldier's Tale" with Wynton Marsalis and original works by Marsalis! A Soldier's Tale" is a live recording of a concert held in New York in 1998. Featuring the trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, Shiffrin on clarinet, Turkovich on bassoon, and de Shiel as narrator, this CD is a collaboration between Camerata, Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, Lincoln Center Chamber Music, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center. This CD is a collaboration between Camerata and the Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York City. The storyteller's part plays an important role in "The Soldier's Tale," and this time de Shields plays three roles (soldier, devil, and narrator). The dialogue is in English, not French, and is so realistic that you can picture the soldier and the demon just by listening to it. De Shields may not be well known in Japan, but in the U.S. he is an actor active in TV dramas, stage performances, and musicals. This wonderful narration is further enlivened by his distinguished co-stars, including Marsalis, Turkowicz, Shiffrin, and many others. Also included at the end is a quintet that Marsalis composed for Turkovic. The title "Meeelaan" is an expression of the pronunciation of Marsalis' name when he calls Turkovic's name, and Turkovic himself tells the episode of the completion of this work in the booklet. This is a highly recommended and must-hear recording featuring a gorgeous version of "A Soldier's Tale" by Marsalis, a leading figure in the contemporary jazz world, and top classical players, as well as an original work (first recording) by Marsalis!
