Description:

MacLeish & Gabrieli Consort! Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius" recreated with the orchestra of the first performance! Founded in 1982 by master musician Paul MacLeish, the Gabrieli Consort & Players is one of the UK's leading classical music ensembles and choirs, and has performed many of the world's most famous works, including Purcell's King Arthur, which won the prestigious BBC Music Magazine Award 2020 for "Record of the Year" (OSIGCD589), and the Gramophone Award-nominated Elgar's "Gerontius' Dream" (OSIGCD589). Following on the heels of the BBC Music Magazine Award-winning "King Arthur" (OSIGCD589) and the Gramophone Award-nominated "The Fairy Queen" (SIGCD615), Elgar's masterful oratorio "The Dream of Gerontius" is now available on their first new album in nearly four years! MacLeish & Gabrieli have been highly acclaimed for their efforts to recreate the instruments, orchestration, and performance habits of the time through meticulous research and consideration, and they have now realized another groundbreaking project in "Gerontius' Dream" by recreating the orchestra of the Birmingham premiere in 1900. This time, they have realized a groundbreaking project to recreate the orchestra of the first performance in Birmingham in 1900.Look out for "Gabrieli Rohr," composed of three top-notch British soloists and young singers, a 150+ member choir from the Polish National Youth Choir, and "Gerontius' Dream," recorded for the first time with an orchestra of instruments from Elgar's time! The gorgeous hardcover booklet (about 40 pages) includes lyrics and biography, as well as contributions from such splendid artists as Stephen Hough and Mahan Esfahani, and a description of each instrument by Paul McLeish (strings are strung with gut strings except for the lowest string, and the "transitional" instruments are mixed with the "modern" ones). The strings are strung with gut strings except for the lowest string, and there is a mix of "transitional" and "modern" instruments. Nicholas Daniel plays a special oboe that belonged to Leon Goossens. Dennis Blaine uses the same instrument that his father actually used in Gerontius' early performances. The Japanese editions of the CDs will include a Japanese translation of each of the Japanese-language versions. Japanese translations of each will be included in the domestic edition. Tokyo M-Plus
