Richard Wagner was a man of extraordinary talent, who wrote numerous operas based on his own scripts and designed and completed the Bayreuth Festival Theater for the performance of his works, while living a life of great debt and infidelity with a married woman. His exceptional talent was not limited to music; he was also highly regarded as a writer and theorist, and his influence on Europe in the late 19th century was so widespread that he became a cornerstone of the culture of the time.
