Description:
Tyche's "Old Friends" is often used as the opening theme or background music for sports programs. Many people will nod their heads and say, "Oh, that song," when they hear the melody. However, other works by Teicke are rarely heard. A three-volume series of his works has been launched. The first collection contains 17 pieces, including "Old Friends. It is performed by the Royal Swedish Navy Band led by Aleksandr Hansson. At the age of 19, he joined the 123rd "King Karl" Infantry Regiment (5th Württemberg Infantry Regiment) and composed several marches in the Swabian city of Ulm, where he was stationed. After composing several marches, he wrote "Old Friends" and presented it to his superior, Paul Ehrharte, when he retired from the army in 1889.He became a police officer and moved from Ulm to Potsdam in 1895, where his works became popular and he became known abroad as "Schutzmannschaft = Musician's Police Officer". Eventually, pneumonia forced him to resign from the police force, and in 1909 he became a local official in Brandenburg's Landsberg an der Warthe. The more than 100 marches and dances he wrote during his lifetime were published by the publisher Hermann Zilwedel and became popular in Germany and abroad, but Teicke himself never became wealthy, having given away the rights to his works, and he ended his life there in poverty.
