Description:
The two string quartets by Brahms (1833-1897) are considered to be among the most austere of his chamber music works. It is said that these works were completed about eight years after they were conceived, with careful time spent in repeated polishing before they were published. The first piece is firm, while the second is soft and contrasting in character, and is full of beautiful melodies typical of Brahms, giving it a dignity befitting a representative work of the Romantic period. Recorded in 2014 by the New Zealand String Quartet, which celebrates its 28th anniversary in 2015. (C)RS
