Description:
Maia Behr was a Jewish-German opera composer. Although he is known primarily for his work in France, as a young man he admired Rossini and composed several operas in Italian. This "Romilda and Constanza" is the young composer's first successful work at the age of 26. Despite overcoming several troubles, it was premiered in Badova in 1817 to great acclaim as "a work of genius. It was subsequently performed in Venice, Milan, Florence, Copenhagen, and Munich, where it gained wide popularity. It is a work of great interest to listen to, with its dramatic development and beautiful melodies. The main role of Romilda is played by a mezzo-soprano (or alto) voice, which expresses the calmness and emotional strength of a woman. The original version of the premiere was performed at the "Rossini in Wirtbart" festival. Naxos Japan
