Roggeven's famous performance, Leningrad is back! Gennady Rozhestvensky lived through the communist regime of the former Soviet Union. Shostakovich's music was special to Rozhestvensky, who made a vast number of recordings with various orchestras, including the Symphony Orchestra of the Soviet State Ministry of Culture, and in 1974 he revived his opera "The Nose" at the Moscow Chamber Music Theater, and in 1981, at the Bolshoi Theater, he performed " Katerina Izmailova" at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1981. In performing Shostakovich's works, Rozhestvensky said, "In my own Shostakovich score, there are passages where the composer himself modified the tempo, metronome markings, and nuances. This is a message that proves that both were special to each of them. Symphony No. 7 "Leningrad" became part of Rozhestvensky's repertoire in 1968, and since then he has conducted the work in many cities around the world.The performance with the then hand-picked Soviet State Ministry of Culture Symphony Orchestra is one of Rozhestvensky's most famous recordings, and once again an important page in Shostakovich's symphony recordings will be revived.
