This remarkable album adds a new repertoire to the rare genre of bass clarinet concertos. Three composers from Sweden, England, and the U.S. have explored the possibilities of the bass clarinet, and their works range from passionate and dramatic music to bright and joyful compositions. Performed by Swedish-born Carl-Johan Sjernström, who began his career as a clarinetist after winning a competition at the age of 18. He studied at the Malmö Music Academy and honed his bass clarinet skills at Ars Nova, and in 1999 became the bass clarinetist of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his international performing activities, he has also been active as an educator since 1999. Also of note is the violin of Benjamin Schmidt, with whom she will perform in Dahgård's "Tandem". Naxos Japan
