The sound is reminiscent of the quiet dialogue of Renaissance aristocrats. This album is a collection of works that were performed by lute duets during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who reigned from the 16th to the early 17th century, and the two talented French lutenists carefully interpret and bring out the charm of these works. The lute was a favorite instrument of European intellectuals from the 15th to 17th centuries, and duets were played in lessons by music teachers and for the enjoyment of music lovers at gatherings, and various scores written for lute duets from that period have survived. Some polyphonic pieces were arranged so that they could be played on two lutes, while others were played in the "treble and ground" style, in which one player played the main melody part of a consort (ensemble piece) and the other played the ground (bass accompaniment). Taking into account these various performance styles, Thierry Meunier and Jean-Marie Poirier have created 19 clear and delicate tracks, while also composing the arrangements based on the historical style of the music.Through engineering that beautifully captures the true resonance of the instruments and their lingering echoes in the performance space, you will enjoy an aural experience as if you were gently present in the quiet conversation of the gentlemen of the Renaissance.
