Albert Herring" premiered at the Glyndebourne Festival in June 1947, conducted by the composer himself. When it was performed at the December Evening Music Festival in Moscow in 1983, Sviatoslav Richter called it "the greatest comic opera of the century. This film is a video record of the revival in Glyndebourne in July 1985, 38 years after the premiere, conducted by Bernard Haitink, directed by Peter Hall, and featuring John Graham-Hall as Albert Herring and Patricia Johnson as Mrs. Bellows, among other famous singers.
