This is the second collection of double bass concertos by Moravian-born Austrian double bassist and composer Sperger. He received his musical education in Vienna and was appointed court musician to the Archbishop of Pressburg (now Bratislava) in 1777. As a contrabass virtuoso, he joined the Society of Viennese Musicians in 1778 and made a name for himself performing his own contrabass concertos. The second collection includes the first and the eighth symphonies. This second collection includes the first and eighth concertos, as well as the Haydn-inspired Sinfonia No. 15. The virtuosity of the contrabass can be fully appreciated. Roman Patkolo, the soloist, was born in Slovakia in 1982. He is a young virtuoso who is known for his numerous collaborations with Anne-Sophie Mutter. Naxos Japan
