The ensemble of flute, viola, and harp is a very unusual and enjoyable chamber music piece. The first work to feature this combination was probably Debussy's Sonata from the last years of his life, composed in 1915, a beautiful piece in which the viola supports the clear sound of the harp and flute. Perhaps captivated by the unique tones produced by these three instruments, Backus published the "Tragic Trio" in 1916, using the same instrumental combination. Other interesting works have emerged over the years, such as Genzmer's impressive Trio, written in 1947 and reminiscent of Debussy, and "Sydenham Music" by the contemporary Austrian composer Staudt, which incorporates modern techniques. The Trio Partow, an ensemble of performers active in the Volksoper and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, is dedicated to promoting these unique works. Naxos Japan
