Since the 19th century, three composers before Bach, Scheidt, Schein, and Schütz, have been called the "three great German S's". It is a mere coincidence of history, however, that the great Scheidemann organist, whose name also begins with the letter S (ch), has not yet come into the limelight. The greatness of this composer's art, which laid the foundation for the art of organ music in the northern part of Germany in the 17th century, is clearly demonstrated in this recording.
