Description:

Juliana Barwick and Mary Lattimore appear in the third installment of InFine, an up-and-coming French label that straddles post-classical, electronic, dance music and pop, in a series of collaborations with the Paris Museum of Music. An emotional, immersive, and captivating journey of sound spun with harp, voice, and analog synths. This is a rare record of the tremendous creative synergy between two current ambient stalwarts who have worked together for a long time. Juliana Berwick has released albums on popular labels such as Dead Oceans and Ninja Tune, and has gained unwavering support as one of the leading figures in the rise of ambient music in the 2010s. Mary Lattimore, who has played on albums by Thurston Moore, Sharon Van Etten, and many others, and whose recent solo work on Ghostly International has transcended genre boundaries and established her unique position as an experimental harpist. The first solo album by Mary Lattimore, "Tragic Magic," was released in 2006. Tragic Magic" is the first full-fledged collaboration album by these two long-time stage performers, both currently based in Los Angeles.Recorded at the Paris concert hall Filarmonie de Paris with engineer/producer Trevor Spencer, who has worked with Fleet Foxes, Beach House, and most recently with Lattimore on Goodbye, Hotel Arkada, as co-producer. This is the third release in a series of collaborations (following Arundel and Seb Martel) between InFine, a long-established Parisian label with catalogs by Lorne, Murkoff, Francesco Tristano, and others, and the Paris Museum of Music. For this project, the duo had unfettered access to the museum's collection of rare vintage instruments, which they used extensively in their production. By painstakingly weaving together the tones of historical instruments, the voices of supreme singers, the unique sounds and atmosphere of the hall, their own experiences and emotions, and intuitive improvisations, they created a gem of a sound world that is both intimate and cosmic in its scope, and full of healing power.
