Description:

Akihiro Miura, Concertmaster of the Tokyo Philharmonic, Releases His First Solo Album! The First Installment of a Complete Beethoven Collection Tackled with Unwavering Dedication Featuring the “Kreutzer Sonata” and Other Notable Performances That Sincerely Engage with the Works This is the first release on Akihiro Miura, concertmaster of the Tokyo Philharmonic,’s independent label. For his debut solo album, Miura has chosen Beethoven, a composer he deeply reveres. With the goal of eventually completing a recording of the complete sonatas, he has recorded the monumental “Kreutzer” Sonata, along with Sonatas No. 1 and No. 6, as the first volume of this project. This album, released at the perfect moment in Miura’s long career as a violinist, is filled with extraordinary passion. Miura is also actively involved in chamber music and has already performed several concerts featuring the complete set of violin sonatas. As a result, he not only has a deep understanding of each piece but also intuitively senses the similarities and differences between them and Beethoven’s symphonies. Compared to his orchestral works, Miura says he finds chamber music more approachable because it naturally reflects Beethoven’s private side. He also notes that while Beethoven is often characterized by his intensity, he was equally skilled at writing lyrical melodies—and these elements breathe life into this recording of the sonatas, making them deeply compelling. The pianist is Seizo Higashi, who has known Miura for 50 years and has performed with him on numerous occasions. He, too, has performed and recorded the complete set of Beethoven’s piano sonatas, making him an indispensable artist for this complete recording project. The performance is entirely free of affectation, focusing sincerely on the music itself, and conveys a bright, radiant sound with great directness. The “Kreutzer” Sonata, in which the high-density interplay between the two musicians comes across with unwavering conviction, is truly magnificent. This is a release worthy of launching a series that is sure to attract attention. (1/2) King International
