Before making his debut under the name Dr. John, he was active as a session man while still in his teens. This is a collection of gems highlighting his talent as a songwriter, which had already blossomed at that time. Influenced by his father, who ran a record store, Mac Rebennack (real name Malcolm John Rebennack, Jr.), aka Dr. John, began frequenting studios in his hometown of New Orleans when he was still in his teens. He first expressed the New Orleans sound he had developed there as a guitarist, but after suffering a gunshot wound to the ring finger of his left hand in 1961, he switched to keyboardist. He also developed his talent as a songwriter, and produced many great songs. This album is full of rare numbers, including early works by his friend Ronnie Barron, who later participated in Paul Butterfield's Better Days and is known in Japan for his collaborations with Haruomi Hosono and Makoto Kubota and the Sunset Band, as well as songs for other artists, works under his own name, and works as a unit under a different name.There are many compilation albums featuring session work from his younger days, but it is rare to find one that focuses on him as a songwriter during this period. 28 songs carefully selected from his great legacy of precocious and highly accomplished work are a must-hear! The final number, "World of Dreams," which he provided to the girl group "The Cakes" as a member of the so-called Wrecking Crew in 1967, just before his debut as Dr. John after moving to Los Angeles, has been added as a bonus track to this album.
