The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1949, and the foundation of the orchestra's Mahler performance tradition was laid by Rafael Kubelík, who became chief conductor in 1960. He actively took up the works of Mahler (1860-1911), Dvořák, and other composers of Czech origin and made them a fixed part of the orchestra's repertoire. Since then, many conductors, including Jansons, have taken up Mahler and given unique performances, and Nézet-Séguin, who made his debut with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2011, boldly took on Mahler, creating a new Mahler image with the best sound and his unique expression. In this impressive Mahler performance, Nézet-Séguin's originality, which he says he learned from Giulini, peeks out from time to time in a very orthodox interpretation that respects the autonomy of the orchestra.
