This disc completes the Mahler (1860-1911) Zycles by Stenz and the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra. The last two pieces on this disc are the moving No. 9 and the Adagio from No. 10. After having enjoyed the wonderful drama of No. 9, one cannot help but feel both great satisfaction and a touch of sadness when listening to the Adagio movement on a single disc. I would have liked to have heard "Song of the Earth" and "No. 10 Complete" (with whoever did the supplementary writing) in this combination.... Stenz has already left his position as music director of this orchestra. What kind of music will he present to us next time? With that expectation in mind, this is an album you will want to listen to over and over again. Naxos Japan
