Elgar (1857-1934)
Description:
This is a recording of Elgar's Symphony No. 2, the eighteenth work of Adrian Boult (1889-1983), who was born in Chester, England. He met Elgar himself while a student at Westminster School, where the composer showed him a complete score of his own work. He then went on to Oxford University, where he studied music at the Leipzig Conservatory (where he studied composition with Reger), and made his professional debut in 1914 as a member of the music staff of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; in 1918 he gave a trial performance of Holst's Planets, and the following year premiered the entire work, except for Venus and Neptune, which he In 1920, he performed Elgar's Symphony No. 2, which he admired. In 1920, he gave a performance of Elgar's Symphony No. 2, a work that had been forgotten at the time, and which is now famous for having triggered a reappraisal of the work.In 1930, he became the first principal conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and was also active in performing the most advanced music of the time, most notably as an introduction to the "mystery composer" Bryan. He also recorded Holst's Planet five times. Nevertheless, he was not interested in all British music, and rarely played Dilius, Britten, or Tippett. Elgar also recorded five times in the studio during his lifetime (1944, 1956, 1963, 1968, and 1975), and as mentioned above, this was his "strong suit" repertoire. The Wagner, which is relatively rare, is also performed with fluidity and without waste. Naxos Japan
