The great Romanian violinist Ion Voyk (1923-1997) was educated in his own country, trained by Georges Enescu, and then under David Oistrakh. He was even acclaimed as "the man with the magic fingers and bow." In later years, he performed in the United States, England, the Soviet Union, and all over Europe. He served as a jury member of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the International Bach Competition, the International Sibelius Competition, and other music festivals. As a conductor, he was also music director of the Georges Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra from 1972 to 1982; in 2017, the 20th anniversary of his death, a memorial concert was held in the Romanian capital Bucharest by his son, conductor Madalin Vojc. In reality, his artistic style was that of a brilliant and flamboyant virtuoso violinist who was sometimes willing to sing to melancholic ends. He is a virtuoso violinist with a strong personality who sometimes shows an earthy and crude expression.Yet, his technique is so assured that he leaves no stone unturned at any moment.
