Description:
The first SACD release of this masterpiece by the young Grimaud, combining deep thought and rich poetry, in high-resolution format using ORT mastering. The latest mastering brings this masterpiece back to life in the latest version! Hélène Grimaud, who has been active on the international scene, recorded this concerto collection at the beginning of her career. The performances are extremely appealing, with already solid musicality at such a young age. This is the first SACD release with high-resolution recording using the ORT mastering technology originally developed by Nippon Columbia. The CD layer also uses this mastered sound source. Grimaud released his first Rachmaninoff solo album at the age of 15, and was just 22 years old when he recorded this album, his first and only concerto recording for the DENON label. Today, she is one of DG's leading pianists and holds an important position of both competence and popularity among her generation, but it was Nippon Columbia that originally discovered her talent and was the first to record her. Unfortunately, this is the only concerto album she has released, and although she does not necessarily have an extensive repertoire, some of her recordings and performances reveal a sincere, if not outgoing, style. One might venture to say that she has a strong introverted side. This is a trend that can be heard in the concerto recordings of this time, as well as in the Rachmaninoff performance in particular, which gives listeners a sense not of sonic dynamism but of inner depth. On the other hand, the recording by Nippon Columbia in 1992 may be regarded as a slightly less distinctive recording in an age when digital recording has evolved on other labels and sound quality has diversified on each label. Rather than a recording that emphasizes resolution at the acoustically excellent Abbey Road Studios, it is a recording that does not focus on the piano alone in the overall frame, but rather blends it in just right. In this ORT mastering, we have tried to be faithful to the original master from a musical standpoint while also emphasizing the production intent of the time, so you can enjoy this wonderful performance with a sound quality that is an extension of the original, but with greater freshness. We hope you will enjoy the latest reissue of these two masterpieces, which are filled with the young talent of the pianist. (1/2)
