The Goldberg recording made by the CBC in 1954, prior to the "Sony Old Recordings" of 1955, is now available in the best possible sound quality. This is an extraordinary performance with a different excitement from the Sony recording that makes full use of editing, even though Gould's unique world has already been created. The arias are full of singing and thrilling variations that draw the listener in. The centripetal force and driving force created by the innovative slow and fast movements thrill the audience from beginning to end. The commentary, which compares the performance with recordings by Turek and others who Gould said were his influences, will help you reevaluate Gould's presence in the history of Bach performance.
