Roland Garnier's acclaim! The debut album by Slow, a member of Tru Thoughts, of which Moonchild is also a member! Slow has been writing songs and playing in bands since she was a teenager. During a hiatus from gigging, she became drawn to self-sufficient production and began recreating the styles of her favorite producers with a variety of instruments in hand, including flute, keys, and guitar. Slow's DIY approach is reminiscent of lo-fi beat-making. He delicately collages session recordings and repurposes techniques like J. Dilla and Madlib. The result is nostalgic yet fiercely contemporary, with shimmering rhodes, vintage drum lines, and ethereal vocals. The shining lilt of the slow and introspective lyricism overlaid on fuzzy, analog warmth makes for an enchanting escape. An avid crate digger, Slow naturally draws inspiration from many genres, and her extensive references to Tyler the Creator, Tame Impala, and Erykah Badu are a nod.'Artists who influenced me early in my career, such as Laura Marling and Jeff Buckley, provide inspiration for my songwriting and lyrics. On the other hand, my later influences of soul, hip-hop, and jazz inform my production." She explains. The album title, "Where The Mind Wanders," comes from Sophie's raw expression, "Where the mind goes, a glimpse of the good and the bad. Glimpses of love, anguish, remorse, joy, and everything in between are highlighted and reflected in her witty, cross-genre work. Sophie's eclectic points of reference allow her to delve into a variety of sonic landscapes, including modern neo-soul songs, psychedelic moments, and traditional jazz, soul, and hip-hop sounds. A commentary will be enclosed with the domestic edition CD.
