Bostock's SACD hybrid disc of Kizuna Music from Japan and England. Douglas Bostock has close ties to Japan, serving as principal conductor of the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and teaching at Tokyo University of the Arts. This time he appears with a delightful performance of Holst's rare "Japanese Suite. This piece was hastily completed in 1915, while Holst was composing "The Planets," at the request of the Japanese butoh dancer Michio Ito. It is said that Ito taught the material to Holst, and it is also interesting to note that Holst wrote music like "Boy, you are a good boy, take care of yourself..." at the same time as that melody from "Jupiter. Bostock's interpretation is directly from Boult. Elgar and Vaughan-Williams are attractive with their English folkloric tones and grandeur. Froissart" is considered Elgar's first orchestral piece and is full of youthful energy. Bostock's love of Japan and his British sensibilities combine exquisitely to create an ideal world.
