Description:
German composer Christian Ludwig Boksberg was organist in Großenhain from 1692 to 1702. Later he worked as a singer, opera director, opera composer, and librettist at the courts of Leipzig, Wolfenbüttel, Ansbach, and Kassel, and later as organist in Görlitz. On this album, the German period ensemble Concert Royal Cologne, founded by baroque oboe virtuoso Carla Schlater, features cantatas and religious concertos. Boksberg's cantatas do not follow the then-common orchestral, choral, solo aria, recitative, and chorale forms and formations consisting of strings, winds, and basso continuo; the majority of the works are chamber music composed for voice and two melodic instruments, bassoon and organ.
