Description:
Killer Afrobeat from a legendary percussionist who was also a member of Fela Kuti’s band “Africa 70”! Pax Nicholas is one of the few surviving members of Fela Kuti’s band “Africa 70.” He joined Africa 70 in 1971 as a conga player and backing vocalist, contributing to the production of historic albums such as *Lady* and *Shakara*. In 1978, he left Africa ’70 alongside drummer Tony Allen and settled in Germany. There, he began a second chapter in his musical career, leading the 12-piece Afrobeat ensemble “Ridimtaksi” and collaborating with the Finnish maverick Jimi Tenor. In 2009, Daptone Records reissued his 1973 cult classic *NaTeefKnowDeRoadofTeef*, finally earning him the long-awaited global recognition he deserved. A killer track from that album has been released as a single. Built around thunderous brass, intricately interwoven percussion, and razor-sharp guitar riffs, it’s a heavyweight Afrobeat number designed for the dance floor. The B-side features a limited-edition remix by Gabriel Bellabas, co-founder of the label *PositiveFuture*, as well as a producer and DJ. He reconstructs the original into an even deeper and more minimal realm, crafting a tense, minimalist groove that exudes a hypnotic, dark atmosphere reminiscent of Moodymann and Ricardo Villalobos.
