Taking their name from Béla Bartók's "Béla," the quartet has released CDs from KLARTHE RECORDS, NOMADMUSIC, and Le Palais des Degustateurs, actively working on modern and contemporary works, while Bartók is of course the core of their repertoire. He has released CDs from KLARTHE RECORDS, NOMADMUSIC and Le Palais des Degustateurs. This album features Britten's string quartet and "Illuminations". Britten's chamber music, which he composed from the beginning to the end of his life, is also an essential part of his music. This album contains three of his string quartets, which are numbered. The "Illuminations," Op. 18, is a work for high voice and string orchestra with lyrics by Rimbaud, consisting of nine pieces. It is performed here in a version for soprano and string quartet, arranged by the group's violinist, Aurier. Britten described the poem as "a heavenly scene," and the world it contains is sounded out in Britten's masterful calligraphy. The solo singing of soprano Julia Wisiniewski is also noteworthy.
