Founded in 1964, the Nash Ensemble is the resident chamber ensemble at London's Wigmore Hall, featuring some of the world's finest musicians. The Nash Ensemble has recorded and performed over 300 world premieres and many other styles of music in a wide variety of configurations, and is considered one of the finest ensembles in the U.K. The ensemble has recorded over 90 albums for Hyperion and other labels, and has been nominated for the Gramophone Award and the BBC Music Magazine Award. In 2021, the ensemble also won the Gramophone Award for Contemporary Music for a collection of works by John Pickard. This 60th anniversary album combines Debussy's early string quartets and three sonatas from his later years with a rare performance of the Prelude to the Pastoral Afternoon, arranged for chamber ensemble by the famous oboe player David Walter (Valtaire).Arranged for 12 players (strings, winds, harp, and crotales), it is an idiomatic arrangement that loses none of the mystery and pleasant silence of the orchestral original.
