Description:
This is the second Afro-spiritual jazz session by the best Hungarian musicians, including Szabolcs Bognár, who is also known for his work under the name Àbáse. As part of the legendary Budapest event series "Monday Session", an impromptu concert took place one evening in September 2017 on the banks of the majestic Danube River in Pontoon Budapest, right next to the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in the city center. Led by Szabolcs Bognár, this one-night session featured Szabolcs on keyboards, shekere, and panlogo (Ghanaian percussion similar to congas); Viktor Sági on guitar; Levente Boros and Zsolt Krecsmáry on drums; bass András Koroknay on guitar and mogues, Dávid Szarvas and Yuma Na'Ma on various percussions, and Gábor Weisz on tenor, soprano sax, and flute - some of Hungary's finest musicians. The band improvised for almost 90 minutes.Side A, in particular, contains the first 20 minutes of the performance, almost uncut. The sweltering heat is truly breathtaking. Szabolcs had just returned to Budapest a few weeks before this concert from a five-month stay in Brazil. This may be one of the reasons why this album is characterized by a full incorporation of African and Brazilian-style percussion. Inspiration from South America and Africa, combined with spiritual jazz, avant-garde, and Hungarian folk influences, are naturally interpreted by local musicians to create a fictional yet realistic world of spiritual music. Unlike Oshu Records' previous work, "Normafa," this time all the recordings are multi-tracked and mixed using an analog process. By mixing them in an analog process, an unknown Afro-spiritual jazz masterpiece like A1, B2, a DJ-friendly killer tune, was born. All previous releases on Oshu Records have sold out.Only 300 copies of this work will be pressed, so if you are interested, please do not delay!
