Description:
Ogives Big Band is a progressive sludge experimental band from Bristol, England. The band was initially formed as an instrumental trio with the goal of expanding the material the members had prepared for solo music. Prior to the band's formation, it began as a solo home recording project by guitarist Ben Harris, sporadically recording and releasing ambient and noise-based works around 2008. However, with the release show of the 2018 EP "XrmXfrme," the group began to split into a solo-only part and a full band section, at which point Oli Cocup on drums and Ben Holyoake on bass joined the group, marking a divergence as a group. With the addition of a well-established and intense rhythm section, the songwriting process took on a different approach. Polyrhythms and breakdowns collide, blending intense riffs with sweet and graceful soundscapes, creating songs with a high level of drive and urgency.In 2020, vocalist Steve Roberts joined the band, and the band officially became a four-piece, transforming itself from a solo project into a more intense and diverse ensemble. 2023 saw the recording of this album with a new rhythm section, with Corey Carruthers Bell on bass and John Stewart on drums. Bell on bass, and John Stewart on drums. The two new members were also involved in the songwriting process, further expanding the band's musical background. The band's skillful fusion of musical elements such as savagery, brutality, progressive arrangements, and psychedelic stoner rock, shows the depth of their musicianship. The vocal work is also a must-hear, using everything from crisp screams to mild singing, and manipulating abstract lyrics full of wordplay.
