Although these two albums never charted, the marriage of their sophisticated songs and Luther's youthful, passionate voice has made them "legendary" among music lovers. The rights were later bought back by the artist himself, and the album was never released on CD or digitally distributed. At one time, it was sold for tens of thousands of yen on the used record market, and is known as a treasured album that is coveted by soul music fans. All of the songs on "Luther" were written by Luther Vandross. Luther's verses are pleasantly sung over strong, funky beats and fluid arrangements by Paul Reiser, who had many hits with Motown. Key members of the Luther sound from the 1980s onward, such as Nat Adderley Jr. (keyboard), have already participated in this album.
