OU, a four-piece progressive metal band from Beijing, China, has released its debut album "One," which presents a new sound with a unique personality and a new sensation that develops in all directions. OU emerged on the music scene with their unique debut album, which shows influences from DEVIN TOWNSEND, THE GATHERING, and RADIOHEAD, but is never bound to a specific genre. Formed by drummer and songwriter Anthony Vanacore, who moved to Beijing about eight years ago, OU was formed by Vanacore, who invited talented veteran guitarist Zhang Jing and highly sought-after bassist Chris Cui to join the band, and together the three of them created the song structures and Zhang Jing and Chris Cui are musicians who have been looking for an opportunity to try new things and grow while playing in local bands. To find a lead singer, the band gave the candidates rough songs and asked them to interpret the vocal melodies and lyrics themselves. As a result, the band found a new attraction in Lynn Wu, a female vocalist whose voice blends a rough blues feel with a powerful, uplifting delivery. Lynn's addition to the band has given the songs their own identity and made them more dynamic. The opening track "Travel," the band's first song, kicks off the production with a dynamic and punchy sound! The lyrics, sung in Chinese, are also impressive. In the dynamic and captivating "Farewell," Lynn's hauntingly quiet delivery gives way to operatic yells as the song reaches its boiling point. The interplay of synths and guitar riffs is also worth listening to.Mountain" runs quickly, morphing from a light pop number into an old-school Djent breakdown, while "Euphoria," which presents an ambient world for seven minutes, contrasts with the previous tracks and gives the impression of a remix of a Radiohead song. It leaves a lasting impression. Just as we are pulled into another world, we are brought back to reality with the explosive introduction of "Prejudice," while "Dark," with Chris's frighteningly precise rhythms, gives us the oriental melody of a Chinese band. The band's clear vision of giving each song its own character has been achieved on their astonishing debut, "one," which is sure to leave its mark on the progressive metal scene in 2022.
