According to David Coverdale of Whitesnake, all of the songs on the album reflect the fact that blues artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and the three kings, Albert, B.B., and Freddie, continue to inspire him. The book is said to reflect the fact that blues artists such as Albert and B.B. and Freddie the Three Kings continue to inspire him. In the liner notes to the album, he says, "It's hard to put into words how deeply connected they are to my soul. But for me, "blues" is a beautiful word that expresses a gush of emotion.
