Sarah Connolly, one of Britain's leading mezzo-sopranos, studied singing and piano at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, where she was a member of the BBC Singers, before embarking on a full-fledged career as an opera singer. She has performed at the English National Opera, the Royal Opera House, and other major opera houses in the U.K., Europe, and the United States. She has also received high acclaim for her performances and recordings as a member of The Sixteen, and was awarded a CBE (Third Class Order of the British Empire) in 2010 and a DBE (Second Class Dame of the British Empire) in 2017, which confers the title of "Dame. Sarah Connolly's first collection of British songs since the 2011 release of My Heart Is His (CHAN 10691), this program commemorates Connolly's BBC Proms recital debut and the 100th anniversary of Hubert Parry's death. Sarah Connolly sings a wonderful program of modern and contemporary British songs spanning 120 years from Stanford to Turnage, by British composers associated with the Royal College of Music (RCM), where she has studied and taught.The two bridge pieces and Turnage's "Fairwell," written for Sarah Connolly, are world premiere recordings.
