This is a mega-collection of all recordings by Sell and the Cleveland Orchestra, the pinnacle of 20th century orchestral performance history, collected on 106 CDs for the first time in Sony Classical history. The first ever mega set of all the recordings by Sell and the Cleveland Orchestra on 106 CDs. In Japan, where Sell's first visit to Japan and his sudden death left a particularly strong impression, the recordings have long been popularized as "The Art of Sell & the Cleveland Orchestra" in a series of low-priced CDs. In the CD era, various anthologies have been compiled in the 10, 20, and 30 years since his death. In 2013, a 49-CD box set "George Sell Edition" was also released in Korea, but this is the first time in Sony Classical's history that Sell and the Cleveland Orchestra's "complete recordings" are literally included in a single set.This box contains all recordings made by Sell for Columbia and Epic labels over a 22-year period from 1947, when he succeeded Erich Reinsdorf as Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra, to 1969, one year before his sudden death after a tour in Japan. The album also includes recordings made with the New York Philharmonic in the 1950s. The collection also includes mono recordings made with the New York Philharmonic in the 1950s, chamber music recordings that stamp Sell's skills as a pianist, Sell's narratives, and all the session recordings of Sell ever released by Columbia and Sony Classical (with the exception of the live Tokyo concert in 1970). The big selling point of this album is that it contains all session recordings of Sell released by Columbia-Sony Classical so far (except for the Tokyo show in 1970). DISC 1-19 are monaural recordings, many of which are being released for the first time on CD by Sony Classical. Starting with five Dvořák: Slavonic Dances, a specialty of Cell, symphonies from the standard repertoire of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, etc., and the famous soloists active in the U.S. at that time such as Kazadž, Zelkin, Szigeti, Francescatti, Fleischer, etc., on the Columbia/Epic label, all of whom were active in the U.S. at that time.
