Howard Shore rose to prominence with his successful collaboration with director David Cronenberg, and since then he has been active as a composer of film music, mainly in Hollywood. Although he has demonstrated his ability only in a series of suspenseful and tension-filled films, since becoming a successful composer, he has also received many offers for comedy films and has demonstrated his outstanding auteurship in a wide range of genres. He became the musical director of the popular American television program "Saturday Night Live" (1975-1980), where he developed a flexible musical sense. After leaving Cronenberg, he worked in a variety of genres, and in 1994, at the request of director Tim Burton, he replaced Danny Elfman in charge of "Ed Wood," for which he won the "LA Critics Circle Award" for "Best Composition. His worldwide hit "The Lord of the Rings" won an Academy Award and an L.A. Critics Circle Award. In addition to his work as a film composer, Shore has also written a few pieces as a classical composer. Two of his works, the piano concerto "Ruin & Memory" and the cello concerto "Mythic Gardens," are included on this album.In the piano concerto, Lan Lan takes the solo and gives a magnificent performance.
