Description:
Band of Horses now includes Bridewell, longtime members Ryan Monroe (Key/G) and Creighton Barrett (Dr) with new addition Matt Gentling, former bassist for Archers of Loaf (who joined the Band of Horses touring band in 2007 and on the track "Why Are You OK"), and guitarist Ian MacDougall, who was not only Broken Golden's frontman, but until 2017 was Band of Horses' He was the Merchandise Manager. He was convinced by Creighton and the band's tour manager to join, after all, he was the one who convinced Creighton and the band's tour manager to join. The songs on this album, THINGS ARE GREAT, document these changes in the band members and the various connections that have changed or remained intact in Ben's life. The songs here are more autobiographical than any of Ben's previous works, as they explore the vague frustrations and quiet insults that accompany changing relationships, what people do to make things right, and what they do when they can't. "This album is a story of relationships," says Ben, "and it's a story of how people have changed and stayed the same. This album is a story about relationships. Personal relationships, your own relationships. But I don't want to single anyone out," he says quietly. It's also about musical relationships changing. Some are new, like my relationship with Wolfie (Zimmerman), who was my creative conscience. Some relationships continue, others end. This is important. It is the relationship with Matt, Ryan and Creighton. Some people have come back into my life, like Dave Sardy, who mixed "INFINITE ARMS" and also mixed this album, and Jason Lytle, who produced "WHY ARE YOU OK" and came back again. Also, Jason Lytlele, who produced "WHY ARE YOU OK" and came back to us. I think a lot of the lasting relationships tell part of the story," he added. But the essence of the album is the evolution of where we are at this point in our lives, individually and collectively, and hopefully it tells the truth from all sides, not just his or hers. The first single from the album is "Crutch," about which Ben has this to say. Like many of the songs on the album, "Crutch" was born out of my own life. Crutch" refers to something I was dependent on, like my relationships. For example, my relationships." I think he wanted to say, "I have a crush on you," but I thought it was interesting that the relationship felt like a crutch. We all have times when everything goes wrong and we have to keep going. Even if you don't know the specifics, I think this song conveys that feeling." A magnificent masterpiece, Band of Horses' latest release, THINGS ARE GREAT. This is by no means a work of nostalgia or regret.Through this album, which, like an ancient tale of heroism, finds itself at the end of the story, Ben Bridwell gives listeners hope that anyone can do the same.
