Known primarily in the disco, R&B, and soul genres for her flamboyant, androgynous appearance, falsetto voice, and hit disco singles in the late 1970s and 1980s, Sylvester James Jr. was an iconic singer/songwriter/performer of the era and the "Queen of Disco". Sylvester, aka Sylvester James Jr., was known for her hit disco singles in the late 1970s and 1980s, and was dubbed the "Queen of Disco.
The album features 13 unedited songs, plus a recording of the mid-concert ceremony in which Sylvester was awarded the keys to San Francisco.It will conclude with over an hour of previously unreleased music and a two-hour-plus compilation.
Sylvester was a fearless LGBTQ+ icon who gained cult status and recognition in San Francisco, was awarded the key to the city, was an activist who campaigned against the spread of HIV/AIDS, and died in 1988 of complications from the virus. All future royalties were donated to a San Francisco-based HIV/AIDS charity.
