Description:
The legendary 1961 Village Vanguard recording is reproduced in its entirety on four 180g heavy vinyl discs. The 12-page booklet includes original liner notes written by producer Olin Keepnews, as well as new liner notes by producer Bill Belmont, who was in charge of the reissue, and a proof sheet from the performance provided by photographer Steve Schapiro. and a proof sheet from the performance provided by photographer Steve Schapiro. Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro, and Paul Motian spent 18 months preparing for this legendary date, June 25, 1961. Bill Evans, who was not so famous at the time, performed a day and evening set on this Sunday, and although there was not a large audience, the trio would later become world-famous for their sessions on this day. Tragedy also struck ten days later when Ruffalo, then 25 years old, was suddenly killed in a car accident. Two sets of the daytime and three sets of the evening are recorded in the order in which they were recorded.
