For this 11-song album, his fourth, he focused on a simple goal: to create something that would last. The melodies are romantic and warm, the arrangements are captivating and expansive, and the newly formed ensemble is skillfully utilized. The album was also mixed by veteran producer Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, Built to Spill). The resulting sound is as intimate as his previous work, but with a mystical, communal glow that is brand new and unprecedented.Central inspirations include the cerebral musings of philosopher Alan Watts, the multi-layered storytelling of King Crimson, and the fantastical landscapes of Fleet Foxes.
