A tremendous performance that overturns preconceived notions of Mahler's 9th by Sanderling! This is an astonishing recording. Three recordings of Mahler's Symphony No. 9 were made by Sanderling with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (1979.2), the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (1982), and the Philharmonia Orchestra (1992), but the fourth, a dream live master tape with the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra, has been preserved by Studio Hamburg Enterprises, The fourth, a dream live performance with the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra, was preserved at Studio Hamburg Enterprises in December 1987, just in time for the BBC Philharmonia Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra recordings. It is said that the 1979 recording of No. 9 with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra was the first session, and the discography only includes Nos. 9 and 10, except for a live performance of No. 4. This recording was also circulated in some pirate editions, but this is an authorized release from the original mister.The differences in performance time of Symphony No. 9 are: Berlin Symphony Orchestra BBC Philharmonia North Germany 1st movement 27' 29" 27' 48" 26' 26" 25' 39" 2nd movement 16' 43" 17' 14" 16' 01" 16' 45" 3rd movement 12' 48" 13' 03" 13' 04" 12' 19" 4th movement 23' 24" 24' 25" 23' 48" 25' 53" The first movement is fast and the finale is slow. The tempo itself is not particularly different, although the time is a little shorter due to a cut in the third movement. The strong contrasts in each phrase and the grotesque energy of the earlier sections are reminiscent of Shostakovich. In addition to the exuberance of the live performance, it is hot as only the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra can make it, and the finale is a moving one that cannot be listened to without tears. Finally, a performance that shows the Mahler image of Sanderling has appeared. Highly recommended. King International
